EarthLink vendor casualty
Now that its customer base of EarthLink employees have been laid off, Starbucks is closing its store at 17th and Peachtree.

Some might also wonder when the Madison Grill deathwatch begins- though the remaining folks at ELNK certainly have every reason to drink, so things might not be as bad there as one might think.

The fate of Madison Grill...

Considering the new manager is making crazy (and stupid) changes, is alienating the patrons and saying about EarthLink being in the building "they are a captive audience," I don't see them lasting that long - especially since the wait staff is an average age of 15. Good luck getting and and out of there in an hour for a business lunch. The guy is just running the place into the ground.

folks have complained around the office that the service is terrible, even more terrible than before.

apparently, they discontinued the rewards card thingy as well... I had about $150 or maybe more on a card that I had that I was unable to spend. Maybe financially it's a bad debt for them, or something, but still that sucks.

i didn't eat there because they allowed smoking. then they decided non-smoking until 3pm, which is utter bullshit. now, they're smoke free, which is good, and I was actually thinking of supporting their decision by buying some food there...

Now, not so much.

c'est la vie. HEY! There's always my friends place!

I think McQ has been pretty hands-off with Mad Grill since he's moved on. And I can't blame him when he has other business ventures that are more profitable and are better uses of his time.

Still, Mad Grill has always been bad. I found out an old friend of mine was working there a few years ago, and my wife came down for lunch so we could see her. Her food was cold, it took forever to serve us (our friend eventually took our table because the waiter for our area was too busy to look at us), and my order was incorrect. I had several bad experiences with the waitstaff and the food there over the years, and made a rule that I'd only sit at the bar (their bar staff was great) and I'd only order the chicken fingers (hard to screw that up).

It's hard to see ELNKers as a captive audience, at least for food. There's at least Vespucci's. And Subway and the Mexican grill place where Scoop's used to be have good food and good service. I can't see taking business acquaintances to Madison Grill for lunch, and I certainly can't see stopping in there for a quick bite at noon.

I hope Madison Grill closes soon and something good opens up. Every time my friends and I go there on our lunch break from school we regret it and swear we'll never eat there again. Then about a month later, we'll forget why we hated it or think, well maybe it's worth it if we can get a drink during lunch, and the whole cycle again etc.

I HATE that place!

I'm not sad that Starbucks is closing, the one on 14th is better and next to the bagel place. :)

Something I learned the other day - apparently the 'bux at 17th is actually doing pretty well. Apparently their numbers are approaching pre-elnk-layoff levels again. Unfortunately, criteria are criteria and you either are on one list or the other.
