I've finally seen B.O.B.
Ever wonder what the "Have you seen B.O.B.?" stickers that Kroger puts on your non-baggable items mean? So have I. Every time a cashier puts one of those stickers on something I buy, I ask them "Who is Bob?". They usually look at me funny, then see that I'm talking about the sticker, and say they have no idea what it is.
Apparently it's a shrinkage prevention program. B.O.B. means "Bottom of Bascart" (Kroger calls shopping carts bascarts), and it's supposed to remind cashiers to look under your cart so they don't forget to ring something up or shady customers don't walk out of the store with stuff they haven't paid for.
Considering that I have yet to meet a Kroger employee who knows what it means, it must not be a very successful program. It also seems silly to put a message on your customer's purchases that isn't intended for them. But at least I know what it means now.
(The stickers also remind you that "Great meals start at Kroger". This often leads to some amusing meal suggestions.)
